ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — More New York lawmakers are getting behind a bill an effort to restart all high school sports.
Sen. Pam Helming (R, NY-54) sent a letter to Gov. Andrew Cuomo Friday asking him to reconsider the current "high risk" classification.
She's asking him to allow student-athletes to compete using proper COVID-19 safety protocols.
On Thursday, a downstate lawmaker introduced legislation to allow all interscholastic sports to be cleared to play this year.
Right now, high school sports considered high-risk like basketball, football, ice hockey and more are on hold.
Local Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes (R, 133) is co-sponsoring the bill.
