ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Section VI announced Tuesday that all winter sports athletes will have to wait until January to play.

Low and moderate-risk sports including boys and girls bowling, rifle, indoor track, boys swim and skiing were originally set to begin on Nov. 30, but Section VI moved the start date back to Dec. 14 out of an "abundance of caution."

After a vote, the Executive Committee of Section VI decided to postpone that start date until Jan. 4, 2021.

That’s when high-risk winter sports including hockey and wrestling are set to begin.

Section VI includes Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Erie and Niagara Counties.

The decision does not impact Section V’s start dates.
