ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Several Rochester area high schoolers signed letters of intent Wednesday.
East High's Seven McGee is considered the top recruit among all high school football players in New York State, and he officially committed to the University of Oregon when he signed his national letter of intent.
He's the first Rochester City School District Athlete to sign to play football for a Power-5 school in more than 20 years and is thankful to all of the people who helped him get there.
"My mother, my father, my sisters, my friends in the back, East was a big part of my success, without East I don't think I'd be up here," McGee said. "Oregon has been my dream school since I was young, a lot of great players there, since I was nine years old I always wanted to play for the Ducks."
Also in section 5 football, Aquinas quarterback Tyler Szalkowski signed his letter of intent to continue his football career at Albany.
Szalkowski said that he's proud of his accomplishment and hopes to inspire younger kids.
"It means a lot honestly, I like being in that role model position, I like having little kids looking up to me, I assume I set a good example for a lot of them and I like making a difference in little kids' lives," Szatkowski said.
Rowan McGwin of Irondequoit signed with Buffalo, Rushawn Baker of Victor signed with Bucknell and Andrew Bonanni of Pittsford signed with Colgate.
