BATAVIA, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Batavia Muckdogs will play baseball again this summer.

Batavia recently lost its major league affiliation, but now a new league is bringing baseball back to Batavia.

CAN-USA Sports will control the new version of the Muckdogs and they'll play in a college summer baseball league.

While the players on the new Muckdogs roster won't necessarily be on the direct path to the majors, this still ensures that fun summer evenings at the ballpark continue in Batavia.

A 60-game season will span from late May to early August with 30 home games and 30 road games.

The new owner of the new Muckdogs, Robbie Nichols, says that he believes hard work by him and his team will fill the seats at Dwyer Stadium.

"This is the community's team, so we want the community to support us," Nichols said. "It's a way of life for the citizens, my staff knows I'm never happy unless we're sold out every single game.  A lot of people told me that can't happen, they told me in Elmira it wouldn't happen, we took a team that was averaging less than 700 a night and took them to over 3,000 a night."
